My wonderful son, Eliot, was born in 2005. I continued my practice at a slower pace for a while, but as of September, 2008, I have gone off call in order to spend more time with my family. After being on call 24/7/365 for most of the last 25 years, it is a welcome break! Thankfully, there are several wonderful midwives still out there serving the NE Ohio community. Email me if you need info. Below is my bio for historical purposes. :-) |
Hello! My name is Blayne Hoerner Murray and I have been a midwife in the Greater Cleveland area since 1990. I started my midwifery training in 1984 as an apprentice to a Cleveland midwife. In 1987 I enrolled in Seattle Midwifery School, a three-year direct-entry midwifery training program that includes 12 months of classroom training, followed by two years of supervised birth experience. I graduated in 1990, passed the Washington State exam and became a Licensed Midwife. I then moved back to Cleveland and started a private homebirth practice. I've attended approximately 300 births.
I am active in midwifery on a local and national level. I served on the MANA (Midwives Alliance of North America) board for two years as the Midwest Regional Representative. I have also served on the Executive Board of the Ohio Midwives Alliance (OMA), have chaired OMA membership, legislative, bylaws, and web page committees, and I created OMA's original web page. I regularly participate in continuing education and research, and peer reviews.
I believe childbirth is a natural process that takes place on many levels: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social, and that all must be honored. I am a firm believer in informed choice and feel that a family should be given all pro and con information about any given option, and be allowed to make the choices that are right for them. I also feel strongly that safety is foremost, and while the vast majority of low-risk women will be able to have their babies at home without any complications, I will not hesitate to recommend additional medical help if I feel the health or safety of the mother or child is at risk. I believe that newborn babies are aware and feeling people who need to be treated gently and with great love and respect. I feel blessed and honored to be invited to share in your birth experience, and will do everything in my power to help create the best possible birth for you and your family.
I offer complete prenatal care, homebirth, waterbirth, and postpartum and doula services. Call me for a free, in-person interview visit. If I cannot meet your needs, I will happily provide referrals to other area care providers.
